Student Opportunities

Our theory of change is one simple but profound sequence: See > Serve > Lead.

We provide opportunities for young people to see the world through service, and that experience inspires them to become leaders in Montana and throughout the world. Our programs are for undergraduate and graduate students attending Montana universities, tribal colleges, and community colleges.
These opportunities include:

Baucus Leaders DC

Every summer we place undergraduate and graduate students as paid interns in Congressional offices and committees in Washington, D.C. to experience politics and the legislative process first-hand.

Climate Scholars

Every summer we place undergraduate and graduate students with organizations working at the forefront of climate and environment issues.

Baucus Leaders MT

Every summer we place undergraduate and graduate students with Montana-based offices for project-based learning experiences. This local version of the Baucus Leaders program is for students interested in public service and nonprofit leadership.

Study Abroad

Our study abroad programs draw from Max Baucus’ life and work, from his backpacking trip around the world as a university student to his service as the U.S. Ambassador to China from 2014 to 2017.

We send law and policy students to universities in China and Ireland for immersive cultural experiences. The students, many of whom have never traveled internationally, eat, explore, and study comparative law and policy alongside students and professors from these countries.

Public Service Education

At the University of Montana’s Department of Public Administration & Policy, we provide innovative education for undergraduate, graduate, and nontraditional students who want to catalyze their careers in public service and nonprofit administration.
