What We Do
Our Three Areas of Focus
We are not a think tank; we are a springboard for action. We provide opportunities for students to engage in experiential learning, inspiring them to see, serve, and lead.
We’re enlisting the potential of Montana students through three areas of focus:
Public Service
Our Baucus Leaders Montana program is a local version of the program, placing students with Montana-based public sector and nonprofit offices.
Our Department of Public Administration & Policy at the University of Montana provides innovative education for students seeking to catalyze their careers as public servants and nonprofit leaders.
Climate
Our Ireland Study Abroad program brings together U.S. and Irish students to study international climate law and policy at University County Cork. Classes are co-taught by American and Irish professors, and the focus is a culturally immersive experience that expands students’ perspectives.
Our twice-annual Stockman Bank Speakers Series brings global thought leaders to Montana for public discussions about issues critical to the future of our country. Events are free and open to the public. Recent speakers Al Gore and John Kerry have discussed climate, but our events frequently include all three of our focus areas.
US/China Relations
Our China Study Abroad programs immerse American students in Chinese culture, as they eat, explore, and study comparative law and policy alongside Chinese students. Classes are co-taught by American and Chinese instructors. All students come away with direct experience of Max’s “people-to-people diplomacy,” which builds the strongest bridges.
Impact
Our impact extends beyond our programs and into the works of our alumni inspired to serve and lead.
